The Winnipeg Free Press is reporting that Andrew Swan has dropped out of the Manitoba NDP leadership race (h/t Never Eat Yellow Snow). Given that Greg Selinger already has a lead in delegate support and given that Swan's delegates will likely fall to Selinger, I think that this race is pretty much in the bag. Steve Ashton will need to make some major gains very quickly in order to overtake Selinger in delegate support. Please note that this entry is a prediction, not an endorsement.

Following the resignation of Premier Gary Doer, the Manitoba NDP has set a leadership convention for October 17. This vote will determine not only the next leader of the party, but the next Premier of Manitoba. This will be the first such convention for the party since Gary Doer was elected leader in 1988. Although no one has officially declared her candidacy as of writing, I'd like to take a look at some of the possible contenders.
